Dysport injections can cause a headache, even if they are given to relieve headache pain. This is because other muscles start to contract to make up for the muscles that have been relaxed. In rare cases, a severe headache may persist for up to two weeks after the dysport injection. This is completely normal and should resolve within two weeks, if not sooner.
Taking over-the-counter pain relievers can help to alleviate symptoms. Some people may experience a mild headache after an injection into the forehead muscles. This can last from a few hours to a few days. According to a 2001 study, around one percent of patients may experience severe headaches that can last from two weeks to a month before gradually fading away. Although there are many myths about Botox, the treatment usually has minimal side effects. For a very small group of patients, this side effect may include headaches.
Botox-related headaches are extremely rare and are thought to be caused by excessive contraction of certain muscles in the face.
